The defeat at Upton Park was an extremely disappointing result. To have West Ham down to 10 men after just nine minutes of the game after a crude challenge by Kevin Nolan on Jack Smith meant the West Ham captain would play no further part in the game.

Last Saturday's FA Cup match against Southampton threw up a few questions for Millwall manager Kenny Jackett and supporters alike.

Our recent turnaround in form has been in a large part due to the return of striker Darius Henderson to the team.

Things have taken a dramatic change for the better for The Lions after beating League Two strugglers Dagenham and Redbridge 5-0 in the FA Cup third round replay and then getting a vital 3-1 win at Barnsley in the League last Saturday.

So much for the FA cup providing a welcome distraction from our poor league form.

A 0-0 draw against League Two strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge didn't provide the team with the boost in confidence we were hoping a relatively easy tie would give.

We are definitely in a relegation battle now after our defeat at Ashton Gate against fellow strugglers Bristol City last night.

It's amazing how quickly things change. On Boxing Day we beat Portsmouth by a single goal in a close game.

Yet another away defeat for the Lions means things are looking pretty bad for us at the moment.

Fortunately there are still four teams below us in the table, but how long it will stay like that I'm not sure.

It was another frustrating afternoon for our supporters last Saturday as we drew 0-0 with third-placed Cardiff City at The Den.

It was an even game in terms of possession but we created the better chances and missed a couple of sitters.

Defeat at Leeds United saw Millwall pegged back in the fight at the bottom of the Championship table.

To get anything at Elland Road was always going to be difficult. The fitting gestures in memory of former Leeds player Gary Speedbefore the start of the game produced a strange atmosphere for a Leeds v Millwall game.

To draw away to Crystal Palace was important to stop the rot of two defeats on the bounce.

We had a much-changed line-up, due to injuries and also the poor display in the previous match against Bristol City.

It was a bad return to action after the international break for the Lions as we lost 2-1 at The Den against lowly rivals Bristol City.

The defeat at Blackpool on Saturday brought Millwall supporters back down to Earth.
After three successive wins, scoring 10 goals, we were flying up the table and there was even talk of us not being a million miles away from the teams occupying the play-off positions.

What a difference a couple of wins make. Things were looking desperate and we could barely score a goal, but after Saturday's 4-1 mauling of Ipswich on the back of the 3-0 win at Leicester things are looking much better. We are now up to 17th in the table which is a massive improvement.

I'll admit it, I didn't see our 3-0 victory up at Leicester City coming. True we had stopped the rot a little with a couple of draws away at Middlesbrough and at home to Brighton in our previous two games but we were still a team lacking in confidence and belief going into last Saturday's match.

IanToal.jpgIan Toal, of Millwall Supporters Club, is pleased to see the Lions pick up a valuable away point.

What a relief it was to get a point up at The Riverside on Saturday against a Middlesbrough team flying near the top of the table. So bad has our away form been this season it was our first away point since the opening day draw against Reading.

IanToal.jpgIan Toal, of Millwall Supporters Club, hopes the international break will see the Lions find the form to pull away from the foot of the Championship.

The international break has given the Lions a full fortnight to get over the home defeat against Burnley that sent us into the relegation zone.

IanToal.jpgIan Toal, of Millwall Supporters Club, bemoans the lack of luck that's dragged the Lions into the Championship relegation zone.

It's getting a bit tiresome talking every week about being unlucky and not getting the result we deserved, but Millwall were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Burnley last Saturday.

Ian Toal, of the Millwall Supporters Club, takes look at the last week at The Den.

After another heavy away defeat, this time at Derby County, I think it is fairly safe to say that the priorities of our season are rapidly changing. If you offered me a mid-table finish now I would snap your hands off.

I'm glad to get the West Ham match out of the way. With the Hammers' excellent away form and our average opening to the season, they were the bookies' favourites and I'm sure a lot of our supporters were apprehensive before kick-off.
