The Ledger Building is to close its doors for just under a fortnight as part of a £175,000 refurbishment.

The West India Quay Lloyds No 1 outlet will shut from November 9 to 18 for a "complete redecoration", including new furniture and carpeting.

Visitors will also see a new mahogany bar when the doors re-open, as well as a special booth for the bar's DJs.

Manager John Wall said: "I am confident that the new-look bar will prove a hit with our customers."

The official go-ahead for the facelift means that the scheduled beer festival at the bar will be shortened. The real ale celebration - which kicks off today - was due to run until November 15, but will now end at closing time on November 8.

A spread of 50 real ales will still be available from countries such as England, the USA, the Czech Republic, Japan and Belgium. Beers brewed exclusively for the festival include Spinning Dog Brewery's Brass in Pocket, Greene King's Boss Hogg Bitter, Batemans Brewery's Iron Lady and Highwood Brewery's Scarecrow.
