Amateurs can take on the big boys as the biggest event in the trading card calendar is coming to Docklands.

The Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix, organised by Star City Games will take place at the Excel centre from Friday, August 14 to Sunday, August 16.

Thousands of players are expected to attend.

Rookies have a chance to compete with some of the top-ranking players from around the world as the event is free to enter for anyone.

Attendees will get the chance to compete in the two-day main event featuring tens of thousands in cash prizes and Pro Tour invitations.

There will also be the chance to meet the talented illustrators of popular cards and participate in side events catering to all styles of play.

Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game in which the player casts spells to compete with their opponent. It has been in existence for more than 20 years, with an estimated 20million players worldwide.

The Grand Prix at the Royal Docks centre is open to all ages with no fee for general admission.
