With the National Television Awards on the doorstep of Canary Wharf at The O2 , we felt it was out duty to get dolled up and take to the Red Carpet to get the lowdown on the stars of the small screen.

The glitzy event was a ironically very chilly warm-up to the 21st anniversary of the showcase fronted by former X Factor host, Dermot O’Leary.

He kicked off the TV extravaganza, broadcast live on ITV One, alongside explorer Bear Grylls and Grammy Award winning singer Gloria Gaynor.

But before all of that, we scoured the Red Carpet for some hot gossip and snazzy fashion.

Here are the top 10 things we learned.

1. Showbiz couple Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan were celebrating twice

The pair, who dazzled in colour co-ordinated blue outfits, were also set to party for Mark’s birthday.

So what did the Mancunian actress buy her hubby?

“I bought him a bike - though it’s not brilliant. I didn’t know what to get him, and he’s been getting really into his fitness.”

But she won’t be taking to the wheels with him.

“I’m not very sporty, she said.

“For my new role [in the BBC drama Our Girl] I’ve been meeting lots of female medics and heard their stories and I’ve done a bit of training in the gym trying to get fit - it’s not really working.

“I’m really looking forward to it, I’ve known about it for so long and I can’t wait to get started now.”

2. Most bubbly celeb on the Red Carpet

Former Hollyoaks star and I’m A Jungle finalist Jorgie Porter sparkled in a futuristic-style dress complete with studded hairstyle detail which she told The Wharf had been sewn in by her “glam squad”.

“It’s so much fun, sometimes it’s even better than the night out,” she said. “It’s really exciting for me especially with I’m A Celeb and Hollyoaks up for an award too, hopefully I’ll get to go up on stage.”

3. Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha and glamour model Katie Price are new BFFs

“We were in Big Brother together, now we’re doing the Red Carpet together,” said Katie.

“It’s really exciting,” said Nadia.

“I have always been in love with Katie and I want more people to see what she is like backstage - she’s a very sweet, lovely girl. She’s a woman’s woman and a lot of people don’t realise that.

“And we are out out tonight - we’re not just out, we’re out out.”

4. Biggest amount of bling

Lady C, no question.

The controversial I’m A Celeb contestant went to town with a tiara, beaded earrings and a huge flowing dress.

Very regal.

5. The Towie crew are a close bunch.

Everyone from Lydia Bright, Danielle Armstrong and Jessica Wright voiced their support for co-star Gemma Collins, currently enjoying a stint in the Celebrity Big Brother House.

Jessica said: “I think she’ doing great - she feels she needs to bring drama but she doesn’t, she’s so funny anyway..

“She’s showing her sensitive side which is nice.”

6. No Matter What ... there’ll be no Boyzone tour 2016

Lead singer Ronan Keating disappointed the band’s legions of fans when he confirmed to The Wharf there would be no tour. But instead, he’ll be releasing a solo album. Hooray.

7. It’s a place for celeb hob-nobbing

The Voice judge Boy George met pal Katie Price after not catching up for the past 15 years.

“It’s exciting - it’s nice to get dressed up and it’s nice to see people you’ve met before - I haven’t seen Katie in 15 years.

“I don’t know her well, but I interviewed her in my house and when she came round, every straight person I know turned up that day.”

8. Most distracting thing on the Red Carpet

This goes to Britain’s Got Talent winning pooch Matisse, who was joined by owner Jules O’Dwer and another furry friend.

She brushed off last series’ controversy about using more than one dog in a routine and said:

“How silly was all that?” she said.

“I made a good point of using eight dogs in the Royal Variety because it’s all about the storytelling.

“It’s a long way behind us.”

9. Most eco-friendly celeb: Arlene Phillips

The former Strictly host was sporting a gorgeous custom-made lilac dress adorned with real flowers.

It was designed by world leading florist Joseph Massie and his team as part of a campaign launched by the British Homeopathic Association (BHA) and the Homeopathic Action Trust (HAT).

She told The Wharf: “I’ve recently had a knee operation and was Tweeting about the benefits of Arnica and how it meant I had no bruising and no swelling and they asked if I would wear this dress.”

10. Biggest Red Carpet Surprise.

Doctor Foster and former Corrie star Suranne Jones looking absolutely gorgeous in a flowing black dress - and sporting a rather unexpected, and huge, baby bump.
