Remember that World’s 50 Best Restaurants thing? Thanks to Iberica, you no longer have to travel to get a taste of some of this year’s listees.
The Spanish micro chain has invited a selection of chefs to create tapas dishes, which it’s rotating through its branches, including Canary Wharf, weekly until the end of August.
Priced from £7 they offer a morsel of hyper-fine dining at a fraction of the cost of, say, a gastronomic tour of Spain.
As they’re mostly brightly coloured and gimmicky we pretended they were Pokemon and caught as many as possible in our mouths with the following results.
From July 20, ★★★★✩
Foie Cuba libre with lemon frost
Quique Dacosta of Quique Dacosta Restaurant (Spain)
An indulgent wallow of pleasure. One for your tongue to take a bath in.
From July 27, ★★★★★
Mango, beer and black pudding
Juan Mari Arzak of Arzak (Spain)
It’s not every day you get to dine from a crushed beer can. Nor taste something so comforting. If only there had been more.
From August 3, ★★★★✩
Beef tartare, vinaigrette, anchovies
Dieter Koschina of Vila Joya (Portugal)
Worth making a date in your diary for if you’re a fan of raw meat.
From August 10, ★★★✩✩
Razor clam, yellow pepper, quinoa
Virgilio Martinez of Central (Peru)
Probably the prettiest dish on offer, the bright colours are a little better than the flavours.
From August 17, ★★★★✩
Fresh chorizo tartar
Bittor Arguinzoniz of Asador
These little cones of joy are everything a pig might hope to become.
All profits from the tapas above go to charities picked by the chefs involved including include Fundaciò Oscobe, Unicef Spain, Action Against Hunger Peru and UK and FarmAfrica.
And if you need further reasons to visit, Iberica has launched its summer menu packed with fresh dishes for your enjoyment and now stocks products in its delis from the La Cala range by Albert Adria.
