The Ornate Lock. Sounds like a Merchant Ivory adaptation of an EM Forster novel with Helena Bonham Carter twiddling a parasol as she ponders affairs of the heart.

Or a special edition of Antiques Roadshow dedicated to historic security techniques, with elaborate lattice work and filigree.

Actually, The Ornate Lock – or Manichithrathazhu in its original language – is the top reviewed horror film of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

Directed by Fazil, the 1993 film tells the tale of a couple who move into a house which is believed to be haunted by the ghost of a vengeful dancer.

The film has an average rating of 8.6 out of 10 across 2,517 reviews on the site - the highest score for any horror film with at least 1,000 reviews to its name.

Second on the list is Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho followed by Alien in third place and The Shining in fourth.

But, to start our marathon horrorflick fest, the 100 films we’re keen to see are Pizza (13), Liza The Fox Fairy (14) and Sympathy For Lady Vengeance (62).

Out of the top 100 horror flicks nine were made in the UK but we note with some pride that Canary Wharf is there as a horror setting – in 28 Days Later (68).
