There’s a media frenzy surrounding the news that Sir Mick Jagger is expecting his eighth child at the grand old age of 72. The announcement follows hot on the heels of his Rolling Stones band mate Ronnie Wood becoming a father of twins at 69. It would appear to be a case of anything you can do.
It’s clear what attracted Sir Mick to his baby mama, the beautiful, lithesome 29-year-old American ballerina Melanie Hamrick, but what can she see in the wrinkly rocker?
To paraphrase the words of the late, great Mrs Merton: “What first attracted you to the multi-millionaire rock star?”
That Sir Mick’s bank balance at an estimated £200million may go some small way in making him appear irresistible but I think there’s a lot more under the bonnet than a big wad.
Sir Mick seems to be a modern-day Prince Charming, a knight in shining armour, sweeping breathless young damsels off their feet.
This is the man who is said to be the inspiration for Sophie Dahl’s modern-day fairytale The Man With The Dancing Eyes – a sensual, luxurious re-telling of an encounter between a young woman and an extremely charismatic older man.
The great performer is noted for his superior intellect, boundless energy, sparkling personality, kindness and love of beauty.
Pair these attributes with the fact he’s a super father to all of his seven children, who range in age from 17 to 45, and a generous provider to his ex wives, girlfriends and nearest and dearest.
Form an orderly queue, ladies. As a working mum, I can only dream of the kind of security and future that, although unplanned, Melanie has provided for her unborn child.
She no longer needs to worry about what she will do when her career as a ballerina ends.
She and her child will join part of a one of the world’s most famous rock dynasties, one that seems, from the outside at least, an altogether happy and well-adjusted collective.
And she’ll get to spend her days with The Man With the Dancing Eyes.
