Anita And Me will offer Stratford theatre-goers a hard-hitting interpretation of Meera Syal’s literary classic.
The coming of age tale about main character Meena is loosely based on its author’s life with a stage adaptation set for Theatre Royal Stratford East from Thursday, October 29.
The action centres on the Kumars, a Punjabi family living in the West Midlands mining village of Tollington, in the 1970s.
It delves into issues of racial segregation and racism faced by Meena and has been adapted for the stage by Tanika Gupta.
Former EastEnders star Ameet Chana takes on the role of Shyam, Meena’s father, in the production and spoke to The Wharf at length about portraying the character.
Various times, October 29-November 21, From £7, Theatre Royal Stratford East.
