wappingsewer142.jpgWapping residents were left frustrated as their questions over the use of King Edward VII Memorial Park for the proposed super sewer went unanswered.

A public meeting organised by the Thames Water at St Paul's Church Hall last Thursday outlined their plans for their "preferred option" to locate waste outlet pipes for the Thames Tideway Tunnel on the park's foreshore.

wappingsewer142.jpgThames Water has announced revisions to its proposed super sewer and it's still not too late save the foreshore at Wapping's King Edward VII Memorial Park.

A second consultation is underway on the Thames Tideway Tunnel, which will help tackle the 39million of raw sewage that washes into the river every year.

A report published this morning recommended a moratorium on the scheme, which could add up to £65 a year to Thames Water customer bills without addressing the wider problems of dealing with sewage in London.

A new free school for Wapping - which drew the support of Dame Helen Mirren - has been given the go-ahead.

Education secretary Michael Gove approved Wapping High School along with 54 other new institutions - including a sixth form college in Newham.

The site has been the home of The Times, Sunday Times and The Sun - and also the now defunct News of the World - since 1986. The titles will be relocated to neighbouring Thomas More Square.

Plans for a Wapping school backed by Dame Helen Mirren may be scrapped.

The proposal for the comprehensive secondary has been shortlisted for the interview stage of the Government's Free School initiative but those behind it have warned the idea is set to fail because of funding problems.

A takeover of pre-employment screening firm Powerchex which will result in around 150 new jobs at the company has been announced.

The Wapping-based company was acquired by US firm HireRight on Tuesday. The deal will see Powerchex, set up by Alexandra Kelly in 2005, expand its operations.
