The new vice-chancellor of the University of Greenwich took up his post today.

Professor David Maguire was previously Pro vice-chancellor for corporate development at Birmingham City University and has a wealth of experience both in universities and in industry in the UK and America.

The University of Greenwich has appointed Professor David Maguire as its new vice-chancellor.

Prof Maguire, an expert in computer mapping and geographical information systems, is currently pro vice-chancellor at Birmingham City University. He will take up his Greenwich post on October 1.

Mick Jagger's ex-wife Bianca was one of the special guests at the inauguration ceremony of the new Vice Chancellor of the University of East London.

Professor Patrick McGhee was inaugurated at a formal ceremony at UEL's Docklands campus last Friday and Ms Jagger was guest of honour.
