On the roads, the A2 is closed southbound from Sun-in-the-Sands. Traffic is queueing from Blackwall Tunnel and on other approaches. Use an alternative route and expect delays.

That's the message from London Assmbley member John Biggs after Transport for London passengers saw fares rise by an average of 5.6 per cent this week.

Restoration work has been carried out on the tunnel since April 2010, with the tunnel closed to all users since last September. It was part of a refurbishment of it and the Greenwich Foot Tunnel costing £11.5million.
