stratford3.JPGThe latest part of the Docklands Light Railway network to be built will be opened to the public next month.

The extension between Stratford International station and Canning Town will be ready for fare-paying passengers in July, although Transport for London was unable to give an exact date when services will start.

AA-nov26-clipperoyster.jpgThames Clippers is answering an SOS from hard-pressed Canary Wharf commuters by introducing a ticket scheme designed to take the stress out of getting to work when the Tube is hit by strikes or delays.

The river bus operator is launching SOS ticket booklets from May 16, the day the next planned Underground strike will start.

DLR1.JPGThe Docklands Light Railway is set to be hit by strikes after members of the RMT union voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

A ballot of members closed yesterday, with 162 voting for strike action, with just 36 against. A total of 175 voted for action short of a strike, with 21 against. As yet no dates have been mooted for when the strikes could take place.

With more Tube strikes looming next month Wharfers took the latest bout of industrial action firmly in their stride, raising questions of the strike's effectiveness.

Whether it meant working from home, taking a trip on a Thames Clipper or pounding the pavements commuters took steps to stay productive in the face of the disruption, many making it into work with little difficulty.

A strike by RMT and TSSA union members is set to affect Tube services from early this evening and throughout Tuesday September 7. Disruption is likely to affect most journeys so you may want to find alternative ways to travel tonight and tomorrow.

Although DLR and Overground services will be running, services may be impacted at stations such as Bank and Canning Town where operations are linked with Underground facilities.

With Tube and DLR strikes looming next week Canary Wharf Group is advising Wharfers not to drive to work if industrial action is taking place.

Car parks on the estate will be closed to all drivers from Wednesday, June 23 apart from those who are already car park pass holders if transport staff walk out.

The Canary Wharf-based consortium is being taken over by Transport for London in a £310million deal due to be completed at the end of this month, and the RMT is concerned this will lead to job and pay cuts.
