Transport for London has launched an initial public consultation on the proposed new river crossings in east London.
The two proposals, a new vehicle ferry crossing at Gallions Reach and a new road tunnel at Silvertown, could be open by 2017 and 2021 respectively if funding is found and planning permission is granted.
Crossrail has adopted a new approach to the restoration of the Connaught Tunnel under the Royal Docks which it says is safer and more efficient.

Long-awaited new river crossings in east London moved closer after the Government pledged to work with Boris Johnson on exploring options including a tunnel linking North Greenwich and Silvertown.

A body has been pulled from the River Thames following a search for a man who fell in close to the Royal Docks on Tuesday evening.
The Met Police's Marine Support Unit recovered the man's body from the Newham stretch of the river at 1.43pm yesterday. Police said they know the identity of the man, in his 20s, but have yet to make a formal identification.
Emergency services have resumed the search for a man's body in the River Thames.
They were called out at around 8.50pm yesterday after the man was reported to have fallen in close to the Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge and the University of East London. The search was called off after two hours and resumed today.
