The borough has joined a scheme requiring all companies to have a permit before they start digging up the roads. It's part of a London-wide initiative to improve co-ordination between utility companies to reduce the number of roadworks in the capital.

blackwalltunnel4-142.jpgDrivers are being reminded that the southbound Blackwall Tunnel will be closed for the whole of the Easter weekend.

The tunnel will shut at 9pm next Thursday and not reopen until 5am on April 26. Southbound traffic will be re-routed to the Rotherhithe Tunnel. Northbound traffic is unaffected, although drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.

The traffic flow through the Rotherhithe Tunnel will be one way for the next two weekends, July 9-12 and 16-19, to ease congestion in east London.

Roadworks around South Quay DLR station are now likely to continue until September.

Transport for London announced last January that the westbound lane of Marsh Wall would be closed for about 18 months for the construction of a new three-car-friendly station.
