They were called out at around 8.50pm yesterday after the man was reported to have fallen in close to the Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge and the University of East London. The search was called off after two hours and resumed today.

Teams from London fire brigade and Air Ambulance used specialist equipment to lift the man to safety at the Grand Depot Road site this afternoon.

A triathlete launched into a late-night rescue after a woman plunged into Royal Victoria Dock.
