Another step in the regeneration of the Royal Docks was taken this week when Newham Council approved plans for a huge residential development next to London City Airport.

Ambitious but divisive plans to build a £1billion university campus near the Olympic Park have fallen through - although the principle of a deal is still in place.

Newham Council and University College London (UCL) have been looking at a site at the Carpenters Estate since October - much to the anger of residents who set up a campaign group to oppose any deal.
