Delta Beach.jpgPlans to use a beach on Greenwich Peninsula for live events attended by up to 3,500 people are to be reconsidered by Greenwich Council.

Dutch company Orange Connections have resubmitted an application to use Delta Beach, on the west side of the peninsula, for at least 12 events a year. Greenwich's licensing sub-committee will consider the new application next Wednesday.

The Hertsmere House site, at the western end of the Quay, has been earmarked for the 63-storey Columbus Tower, which was conceived as an office building. But a review by architects Squire and Partners has suggested a mixed use tower would be better for the area.

They are Chelsfield Consortium, DV4 Ltd and St George Central London Ltd. All three will now put forward detailed proposals for developing the 50 acre site, which is part of the Royal Docks Enterprise Zone.

The London Development Agency and Newham Council have invited the companies to submit their outline proposals for the 50-acre Silvertown Quays site before deciding on a preferred developer next March.

The appoointment, which is subject to contract, will see a mixed used centre built in the Albert Basin area, featuring around 700 new homes and 50,000 sq ft of retail and community space.

The 777ft tall tower would have rivalled One Canada Square in height, and was to have been built on the current Hertsmere House site at the western end of West India Quay. Falling demand for office space saw it shelved at the end of 2009, but the project is to be revived.

I hear that some Labour members are calling on organisations in Tower Hamlets to refuse to cooperate with Mayor Lutfur Rahman. I must confess to finding this extremely naive. I have established regular meetings with the mayor, and the Labour Group leadership in Tower Hamlets is engaging similarly to try to influence his decisions.

Tower Hamlets Council is due to decide tonight (Wednesday) whether to clear its plan for five flood-lit all-weather pitches on the upper levels of Selsdon Way's 500-space NCP multi-storey.
