TWO men have appeared in court charged with the murder of a Canary Wharf banking executive.

Frank McGarahan, 45, the chief operating officer at Barclays Wealth, died following an attack in Norwich city centre on Saturday night.

Brothers Tom and Ben Cowles, who are 21 and 20, of Beaumont Road, Costessey, were remanded in custody after appearing at Norwich Magistrates Court on Friday, October 3.

Elderly woman stabbed on Island

AN ELDERLY woman has been stabbed to death in a house in the Isle of Dogs.

The 70-year-old was found dead at an address in Byng Street late on Tuesday night. Four people have since been arrested in connection with the attack.

Police officers and London Ambulance Service crews flocked to the scene at 10.30pm, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three men and one woman are being held in custody at separate East London and City of London police stations.

THE SHOOTING of a clubber outside a Limehouse nightclub has sparked calls for increased police patrols around the area’s late-night haunts.

West Londoner Curtis Smith became the 90th person to be murdered in London this year when he was gunned down outside Cable Street’s Club Red in the early hours of Sunday morning. Carer Andrew Denty, 29, from Waterloo will appear before Thames Magistrates next week charged with the murder.

POLICE have arrested a man following a fatal shooting outside a Limehouse nightclub.

The man, who is in his twenties, remains in custody following the murder of a 35-year-old West London man outside Club Red in Cable Street, in the early hours of Sunday, July 27.

The victim, who is believed to have been at the club with friends, was shot in the head and neck as he left the premises.

Police were called to reports of a shooting at 3.45am.

The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.

THE FORMER care worker convicted of the murder of a frail pensioner told psychiatrists he had "felt the presence of the devil since he was a boy".

Unemployed West India Dock Road man Edward Ross was handed a life sentence at the Old Bailey today after his conviction for the murder of 83-year-old Helen Mercer in her own bed 14 years ago.

He will spend at least 15 years behind bars.

THE FAMILY of a murdered Isle of Dogs man have made an emotional plea to help bring their son’s killers to justice.

Police are offering a £20,000 reward for information on the stabbing of Darren Sherman in Manchester Road five years ago tomorrow (March 7).

Darren’s parents Rosemarie Belle and James Sherman marked the anniversary by issuing an appeal to anyone who can help close the investigation.

Rosemarie said: “It’s been five years since Darren was taken from us, and we still don’t know what happened to our son. I just want some closure on this now.”
