Teenage joyriders have taken a car on display at the Canary Wharf Motorexpo.

The electric mini Hummer HX, which has been parked on the South Colonnade since the beginning of this week's show, was stolen at about 2.30pm on Thursday.

The 1992 F1 champion put in an appearance at the Motorexpo when he took part in the Jaguar E-type cavalcade before turning his skills to an F1 simulator in Jubilee Place mall.

To mark the start of this year's Motorexpo, I was invited to visit Castle Bromwich in Birmingham to pick up a Jaguar XJ for "delivery" to the exhibition. However, this was just a tenuous excuse to get hold of one of these beasts and put it through its paces. I had to undertake the journey a couple of weekends ahead of the expo to ensure I would have a piece ready for publication in this edition.

Wharfers will arrive at work on Monday to find the estate has once again been transformed into a giant car park, packed with luxury vehicles and test drive opportunities.

While there will be a significant slice of petrol power on show, a substantial portion of the exhibition will have a green flavour.

At least 50 of the iconic cars will be rolling into the estate next month to celebrate five decades since production of the historic motor began.

This marque may have been around in the UK for a while but Infiniti (or, more accurately, parent company Nissan) looks like it is using the Motorexpo to set itself up as competition for the big boys in the luxury car market.

With the unveiling of its new M line saloon and its first London dealership opening in Piccadilly in the not-too-distant future, the company has pulled out all the stops for this year's show.

On the plus side Infiniti's 4x4 is a good looking thing - not quite as threatening as some off-roaders, but chunky enough to get you noticed on the school run - which is where, I guess, most of these will end up.

It also has a good driving position, with enough height to make you feel powerful and plenty of space for anything you might want to chuck in the back.

What a fun and sexy beast of a car.

Favoured by footballers and their wives and yummy mummies doing the school run, this breed of Chelsea Tractor has been much criticised in recent years.

But after my test drive, I'd happily defend the Range Rover, which is good looking, intelligent and forward thinking.

ff-jun10-mansell1.JPGMotor racing legend Nigel Mansell was in Canary Wharf this morning to cast his expert eye over the Motorexpo.

The 1992 Formula One World Champion was also launching his UK Youth Cycle Challenge, which will see him ride 1,200 miles around Britain to help the charity.

Vehicles of all shapes and sizes descended on Canary Wharf this morning as Motorexpo 2010 opened for business.

The heady mix of new models, concept cars and cutting-edge automotive design to the estate will be on show until June 13 with plenty for visitors to see and do.

IN A NUTSHELL
Despite looks to die for and the feel of an arrow on a taut bowstring, the Z4 never quite delivers on the things its sharp lines promise.

IN A NUTSHELL
You can ride the Piaggio with a standard car licence because it has three wheels and it's fantastic fun but don't be fooled - this trike behaves like a bike.

Despite the economic crisis biting to the bone in the car industry, Canary Wharf's motor show has seen solid support from manufacturers.

Visitors can expect a strong showing at this year's London Motorexpo including the UK debut of 13 new vehicles and a chance to get behind the wheel of some of them.
