Victims of the Canary Wharf bomb received a boost in their campaign for compensation after Prime Minister David Cameron highlighted their plight during his visit to Libya this week.

The Canary Wharf bombing of 1996 was caused with Semtex supplied by the fallen dictator.

Conservative Party figurehead Lord Tebbit has thrown his weight behind a campaign for Libyan compensation for the Canary Wharf bomb attack of 16 years ago.

But he also expressed his concern that the issue was not high enough on David Cameron's list of priorities.

Victims of Libyan-sponsored terrorism delivered letters to the Prime Minister urging him to push for compensation.

The group, mainly consisting of those caught up in the Canary Wharf explosion of 1996, arrived on Monday morning - coincidentally hours after it was announced Abdelbaset al-Megrahi had died.

In the recent Libyan conflict it became the first British Navy ship to return fire in almost 30 years. This weekend HMS Liverpool was in calmer waters as it made a stop-off in Docklands before being decommissioned in March.

The ship recently returned from Libya where it served as part of the NATO armed forces.

Campaigners for justice over the Canary Wharf bomb are adding their voices to calls for one of the leading members of Colonel Gaddafi's government to stand trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

It comes after the new Libyan rulers said Colonel Abdullah al-Senoussi had been arrested in the African country at the weekend.
