The presenter will be signing copies of James May's Man Lab: The Book of Usefulness at Waterstone's in Jubilee Place mall next Tuesday.

So it comes as no surprise to see a German driver lined up to appear at Top Gear Live at Excel later this month.

Popular BBC show Top Gear swapped the open road for the Wharf estate on Tuesday morning.

Presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May faced a firing squad of mobile phone cameras as they filmed a segment on city cars outside the Jubilee line station.

WHILE JEREMY Clarkson made headlines for a flying visit to Docklands, one of his Top Gear colleagues pitched up for a slightly longer time.

Dubbed “Captain Slow� by his workmates, James May was never likely to beat Clarkson’s alleged 186mph on the Limehouse Link and was stationary for most of his visit to Canary Wharf.

The journalist and TV presenter was signing copies of his book, James May’s Magnificent Machines outside Books etc in Jubilee Place mall.
