The good news is that rates of violent crime in Britain have fallen and the country is a more peaceful place.

The bad news is that the least peaceful places in the country are mostly in south and east London within a stone's throw of Canary Wharf.

Tony McCluskie, the brother of former Eastenders actress Gemma McCluskie, has been sentenced to 20 years in jail after being found guilty of her murder.

He had previously admitted manslaughter but a jury at the Old Bailey ruled he had intended to kill his sister.

Police identify man who died in East End spa

Witnesses are being sought after a 46-year-old Newham man died in a gay spa in Hackney.

Foreign national Roberto Jesus Messuti was discovered dead at the Chariots Roman Spa at 7.20am last Wednesday. The fatality is being treated as unexplained.

Two teenage girls have bundled into cars in separate kidnapping incidents over recent weeks. Both the attacks, one of which resulted in rape, saw the victims snatched off east London streets in broad daylight.

The first saw a 17-year-old abducted in Hackney. She was taken to a flat where she was assaulted.
