Friends and family of those killed in the IRA bombing of Canary Wharf gathered at the graveside of one of the victims to mark the 16th anniversary of the attack.

The memorial service took place just after Prime Minister David Cameron repeated his support for a campaign calling on compensation from Libya for providing Semtex used in the blast.

Victims of the 1996 bombing of South Quay have spoken out in support of the Libyan rebels' invasion of Tripoli.

The support team for those injured in the IRA explosion had previously visited Benghazi - the headquarters of the rebels - to show their support for the group opposed to Colonel Gaddafi's regime.

The funeral has taken place of one of our local unsung heroes.

Former councillor and mayor Barry Blandford recently died aged 77 and his funeral was on Friday.

He was devoted to the people of this borough, where he had lived all his life.

Mr Ward, the first chief executive of the London Docklands Development Corporation, was remembered at a gathering of friends, family and colleagues at an event in Canary Wharf last night.

Transport for London has released speculative plans showing potential extensions to the existing DLR network.

The map shows new lines to the east to Dagenham Dock; to the south to Catford and Forest Hill and deeper in to west London with lines to Victoria, via Charing Cross, and St Pancras, via Euston.

Canary Wharf, and the Docklands area, was rebuilt under the Docklands Development Corporation - the LDDC.

It achieved a lot but is widely recognised to have not spread its gains sufficiently into the community. Things have slowly improved but it still feels like a colony, plonked into the area.

Over 100 people congregated for a service to remember the two shop workers who died in the 1996 bombing of South Quay.

The multi-faith event took place on Wednesday morning, 15 years to the day since the IRA device was denoted outside the newsagents on Marshwall.

HMS Ark Royal won't be coming to the Royal Docks after all - as the huge 20,000-tonne, 210m-long vessel will not fit through the lock.

There had been speculation about turning the aircraft carrier into a Docklands tourist attraction, but the Royal Docks Management Authority says the idea is a non-starter.

MATILDA the elephant has brought a trunk load of old photographs to the Museum of London.

As part of London's biggest public art event, the Elephant Parade, the Museum of London Docklands welcomed Matilda to the museum last week.

Matilda is a three-dimensional collage, created by photographic artists Craig Ritchie and Maribel Castro.
