West Ham and Millwall have been charged by the Football Association following the crowd trouble at their Carling Cup match last month.

The match at Upton Park on August 25 saw widespread fighting outside the ground, missile throwing, racist abuse of players and pitch invasions by West Ham supporters.

The football was almost a sideshow as West Ham and Millwall faced off at Upton Park while the "fans" faced off almost everywhere else inside and outside the stadium.

The Carling Cup tie between two of the game's biggest rivals always had the potential to be volatile, and the mindless misbehaviour of a minority of fans made it happen.
