It was fun to stay at the YMCA for a team of Canary Wharf Barclays workers.

Working with teambuilding organisation Business2Community, the staff members spent the day away from the office last Thursday to help out at Woolwich Dockyard.

The Powercat40 craft is specially designed for use by wheelchair users and the Ahoy Centre, based in Borthwick Road in Deptford, will be the first place in the country to have one.

The 40ft catamaran, which costs £200,000 to build, includes fingertip control steering, lift platforms, all-round CCTV vision and capacity for 11 wheelchairs.

Ahoy Centre development manager Mandy Corcoran told The Wharf why the boat would be welcome.

She said: “There’s no other boat like this in the world and it will make a huge difference in what we can offer here.

MILLWALL fans should head to Victoria Park this Sunday to rub shoulders with some of their heroes and raise cash for a good cause at the same time.

Nearly 300 men from around the country will be competing in Keep Your Eye on the Ball 5K run at the park, in Hackney, for the Everyman Male Cancer Campaign.

The event, which kick-starts Everyman Month in June, has been organised with support from The FA and The PFA. Millwall players Neil Harris, Paul Robinson, Danny Spiller and Chris Hackett, along with Derby County's Alan Stubbs, Notts County's Adam Tann and Hull City's Matt Duke, are all taking part.

The former Ipswich Town and Scotland striker, now a popular Talksport presenter, handed over a cheque for £2,000 to Great Ormond Street Hospital at The George pub in Glengall Grove.

The money was raised by the pub’s regulars, who were touched by the plight of five-year-old Holly McWilliams.

The season’s over and most of West Ham’s first team squad will be heading to the beach for a long summer break.

But goalkeeper Robert Green won’t be lounging around until pre-season training starts in July, he’s heading off to Africa in mid-June on a three-week fundraising trip in aid of medical charity Amref.

He will visit Kenya and Tanzania to see for himself the projects being undertaken to improve the lives of children there and also help host some football tournaments.

AN ISLE of Dogs family has set off on the longest road trip of their lives.

Ishak Ghani, his wife Alison Murugesu-Ghani and their three-year-old son Adrian, will trade Docklands for the delights of America, Europe and Asia on a two-and-a-half year charity expedition.

The Malaysians in Motion “team� left their home in Lockes Wharf last Thursday, and were flagged off by Tourism Malaysia’s UK deputy director Razaidi Abd Rahim.

They hope to raise money for pet therapy charity Petpositive.

THE SLOWEST man ever to complete the London marathon is set to crush last year's record.

Creeping competitor Greg Billingham inched into Canary Wharf on Friday, five days after the rest of the field charged through the estate.

The self-styled "Mr Slow Motion" completed last year's 26.2 mile event in 88 hours, and he reckons he will clear the 100-hour mark this year due to the amount of special visits he has been asked to make along the route.

Intrepid explorers Ishak Ghani and Alison Murugesu-Ghani will leave the Isle of Dogs on May 1 for a two-and-a-half year journey around the globe in aid of Malaysian pet therapy charity Petpositive.

The pair, who live in Lockes Wharf, will be joined by bubbly son Adrian.
