woolwich.jpgA teenage arsonist has been sentenced to four years in prison for setting fire to a Woolwich pub during the August riots.

The 16-year-old, from Abbey Wood, cannot be named for legal reasons. He was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court today after pleading guilty to setting fire to the Great Harry pub in Wellington Street on August 8.

burnt car142.JPGThe Isle of Dogs didn't escape last night's rioting with looters stealing £15,000 of goods from a Tesco store and four cars being burned out on the Timber Wharf estate.

The violence began at around 10.25pm when a gang of up to 60 youths attacked Tesco Express in Pepper Street.

Man appears in court over Shadwell murders

A 52-year-old man is due to appear in court on Thursday charged with the murder of two men who died as a result of a house fire.

Aaron Bhasin of Chapman Street in Shadwell, is accused of starting the blaze at the same road in the early hours of Monday morning.

Fires on the Isle of Dogs have left residents fearful their homes could be a target for arsonists in the future.

GUESTS at two East London hotels were evacuated after fires just three days apart.

A supsected arson attack on a ground floor room at the Travelodge on Coriander Avenue forced 300 people into the car park last Tuesday night (March 4). And Custom House Hotel lost the use of all of its standard rooms on Friday (March 7), after a blaze damaged half of the building's roof and top floor.

Around 20 firefighters and four fire engines were called to quell the Travelodge fire after staff raised the alarm at 10.48pm. Crews from Poplar, Silvertown and Bow fire stations attended, and London Ambulance Service treated one person at the scene for slight smoke inhalation.

Flower shop is blooming again

AN ISLE of Dogs store has risen from the ashes and is back in business.

Cathy’s Flowers, in Manchester Road, was hit by an arson attack on May 1 last year which badly burned the shop front and left the rest of the premises, and the stock, severely smoke damaged. It’s taken nine months but the entire shop has now been refitted and restocked, and it reopened to customers on February 11.
