When Canary Wharf businessman David Jones opened the door to his warehouse in Charlton, he didn't expect to be staring at 15,000 tyres.

The space was due to be fitted out as a second paintball centre to compliment his site next to the Wharf. But with just a couple of months to go until opening, all he could see were mountains of worn casings strewn across the floor.

Detailed plans are beginning to emerge for the buildings that will make up the large mixed-use Wood Wharf scheme to the east of Canary Wharf.

Applications for the first two buildings in the seven hectare scheme have now been submitted to Tower Hamlets Council. The full scheme received outline permission last year.

Commuters will be soon be able to enjoy special deals when they combine river and rail on their way to work.

Thames Clippers managing director Sean Collins told The Wharf that his fast-ferry company was negotiating with rail operators to offer joint ticketing deals within the next few weeks.

The future landscape of Canary Wharf is beginning to take shape after Mayor Boris Johnson rubber-stamped three major developments.

The London figurehead approved plans for West India Dock's Crossrail station, the 7.98 hectare Wood Wharf office and residential scheme, and the 37-storey Newfoundland hotel near Heron Quays.

Despite the credit crunch, local planning issues have dominated my council casework recently.

Plans are in for Wood Wharf and Asda and there has been consultation on the Crossrail station and a plan to replace the City Pride with a 63-storey tower, building the affordable housing 1.5miles away at the Island Point site.

On the waterways, plans are back to moor a ferry at West India Pier, and a floating hotel next to Meridian Place.
