Where else in the world but Venice can you wade around in wellies with murky water tantalisingly close to your knees and yet still feel you're in a historic and magical town?

British Airways launched its six times a week service to the Italian city of Venice on Monday.

The leisure route from London City Airport will be all year round and comes after the airline's successful introduction of other holiday destinations such as Palma, Ibiza and Malaga.

British Airways has overtaken CityJet to become the biggest airline at London City with the launch of a new route to Italy and increased frequency to Frankfurt and Glasgow.

The carrier has also announced another aircraft from manufacturer Embraer is arriving to take the fleet size at the airport to 14.

A Swiss company named after the founder's Indian grandfather, Baboo is not a run of-the-mill airline.

So while most carriers would baulk at taking up a route from London City that was dumped by Air France owned-Cityjet during a financial downturn, Baboo saw an opportunity.
