00jul17transport2web.jpgCommuters were hit by a meltdown of transport to Canary Wharf this morning with both the Jubilee line and DLR hit by problems.

A signal failure at Canada Water saw the Jubilee line suspended between London Bridge and Canary Wharf at the peak of rush hour, while Bank station shut because of overcrowding.

The new South Quay DLR station could be open in the next few weeks.

The Docklands Light Railway has been working on the new station approximately 120m east of the current stop for nearly two years in order to accommodate three-car trains.

DLR travellers heading west can now touch out at Tower Gateway once again.

The City terminal opened today after a closure of around eight months for maintenance works, but some lines were disrupted this morning by a signal failure at West India Quay.

Weekday detour for DLR users

DLR COMMUTERS may have to plot a slightly different route out of the Wharf at the end of the month.

The rail operator's run of maintenance works will spill into the week next Thursday and Friday (September 25 and 26), as trains between West India Quay and Westferry are suspended to allow construction on an extra track.

At a time of economic nervousness I have to boast that I only spent three days on the beach, with the rest of my break spent decorating the house and visiting potential universities with my teenage daughter – the looming expense of the latter explaining the relative frugality of the holiday.

TOWER Gateway station will close at the end of this month as part of a major expansion of the Docklands Light Railway network.

The western terminus will be demolished this summer to make way for a new station designed for new three-car trains, as revealed in The Wharf in October.

FORMERLY a warehouse for storing sugar, a Grade II-listed building at Tower Gateway DLR is being transformed into luxury flats, writes Rob Virtue.

Sugar House is within walking distance to the City and also just a short DLR ride to Canary Wharf. The Victorian building is being renovated by Berkeley Homes to allow for 42 apartments.
