City Airport's first fun day away from the airfield attracted more than 20,000 visitors last weekend.

The annual event was moved to Thames Barrier Park due to fears over numbers exceeding the airport's capacity after attendance figures had grown from 15,000 in 2007 to 25,000 last year.

A proposal for a 750 apartment development by the Thames Barrier was finally approved by councillors in Newham last night.

Earlier this year the proposal by Barratt East London and Taylor Wimpey was deferred back to council officers due to public opposition to the plans.
