Parliament operates at so many different levels. Prime Minister's Questions, debates, committees, all-party groups' meetings on every conceivable subject. And we are open to all. This week I've been lobbied by a constituent asking me to support the Tory rebels on Europe; teachers lobbying on the unfairness of the Tory-led Coalition's proposals for their pensions and youngsters making a film about youth unemployment.

A blaze which killed an 82-year-old man in his Shadwell home was started by the victim's own son.

Aaron Bhasin, 53, of Chapman Street in E1 pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey on Monday morning to charges of manslaughter over the incident in March this year.

Man appears in court over Shadwell murders

A 52-year-old man is due to appear in court on Thursday charged with the murder of two men who died as a result of a house fire.

Aaron Bhasin of Chapman Street in Shadwell, is accused of starting the blaze at the same road in the early hours of Monday morning.

DLR hostage man jailed

A teenager who held a trainload of DLR passengers hostage because he wanted police to shoot him, has been jailed for five years.

Mohammed Hussain, now 20, of Swedenburg Gardens in Shadwell, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and possession of an offensive weapon at an earlier hearing.

A man has died following an incident at Shadwell DLR station on Tuesday morning.

Paramedics and police officers were called at around 11.10am following reports of a passenger under a train.

Wharfers from Millwall to Wapping have been contacting their elected representatives about plans by Thames Water to utilise some of our limited green and open spaces to build overflow points for the upgraded route to the sewage treatment works at Beckton. CCTV images of two men involved in a violent assault near Shadwell have been released by police as part of an appeal for information over the attack.

A victim was left with serious head injuries after he stepped in to calm an argument between two groups over a traffic incident.

Three men have been arrested for public order offences after it was alleged George Galloway and his campaign team were attacked at the weekend.

After two and a half years in the transport wilderness, East London businesses are celebrating the imminent return of a key train link.

Transport for London has announced plans to reopen the East London line in the next few weeks - two months ahead of schedule - following a £1billion investment programme.

The East London line replacement bus service is to be scaled back from Friday as it "no longer represents value for money".

Buses were introduced when the line closed in December 2007 as part of a £10billion investment programme, allowing commuters to continue to travel to destinations such as Wapping, Shadwell and Shoreditch.

DLR put "on hold" for person on track

DLR services stalled this morning after reports of a person on the track near Bank.

Trains were put "on hold" for nearly 15 minutes during the rush-hour, and a failed train later caused severe delays to the route in and out of the City.

Police have welcomed the conviction of a man who committed a "horrendous" sexual assault on a woman returning from Canary Wharf two years ago.

Alomgir Rouf, 21, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to four years in jail and will be on the sex offenders register for life following his conviction last week.
