Duxbury stood down last night and the club made the announcement this morning. His departure comes in the wake of the takeover of the Hammers by David Sullivan and David Gold last week, with Karren Brady appointed vice-chairman.

CB Holdings, majority owned by Iceland's Straumur-Burdaras bank, completed the purchase of the Hammers from former owner Bjorgulfor Gudmunsson for an undisclosed fee.

Alan Curbishley’s expensively assembled collection of players, many of whom have spent longer on the treatment table than the pitch, is almost certain to be reduced, according to Hammers’ chief executive Scott Duxbury.

But Duxbury denied senior, and highly-paid, pros like Freddie Ljungberg and Lucas Neill will be allowed to leave, insisting it will be fringe players, such as Nigel Quashie and Calum Davenport, who are likely to be shown the Upton Park door in an effort to cut costs.

West Ham United have been chosen to take part in the 2008 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game in Toronto, Canada on Thursday, July 24.

The match, which kicks off at 7pm local time, will see the Hammers take on the cream of Major League Soccer's players, and possibly LA Galaxy's David Beckham.

The fixture, which will be televised worldwide, will be played at BMO Field, home of Toronto FC. Last year's game saw the All-Stars beat Celtic 2-0.

A different perspective
