Writing on Remembrance Day, my mind turns to the heroes. One of those was Tommy Flowers, born in 1905 in Abbott Road, Poplar.
He was the son of a bricklayer and, through night school, earned a degree in engineering and went to work for the Post Office.

Wharfers stopped in silence for two minutes to remember those who have died in conflicts since World War I.
Announcements were made over speakers in buildings across Canary Wharf to begin the silence on Tuesday at 11am.

Wharfers are invited to a Remembrance Day service at the Museum of London Docklands on Tuesday.
The Bishop's Chaplain in Docklands, Rev Fiona Stewart-Darling, will be holding the ceremony between 10:45am and 11:15am to remember the service men and women who died in conflicts.
