Claims that City Airport is working with Red Bull to increase flight operations have been swiftly denied.

The allegations by protest group Plane Stupid follow an application by Red Bull to Newham Council to put a runway and heliports north of the airport to secure an annual air race in Docklands for the next five years.

The Red Bull Air Race will not be swooping into east London this year.

Organisers have passed over the UK in its list of destinations for its 2009 season, ending two years of events in the capital.

FORMER world champion Kirby Chambliss soared to victory in London as bad weather cast a shadow over the Red Bull Air Race.

The Texan won a mis-matched final against Frenchman Nicolas Ivanoff to close within two points of series leader Paul Bonhomme.

RED BULL Air Race organisers are still waiting for news on whether they can build their runway in Newham.

Council officers recommended planning permission for a base north of Royal Albert Dock should be refused due to concerns about noise and carbon emissions.

But the decision has been deferred at the eleventh hour after amended plans for a carbon-offsetting scheme were submitted.
