THE Olympics might be the pinnacle for professional rowers but for the amateur oarsman there can be no better feeling than representing your country.

That’s exactly what happened to two scullers from Poplar, Blackwall and District Rowing Club on the Isle of Dogs. Dan Bartlett and Ash Haynes were selected for the England squad at the Home International regatta in Cardiff at the end of July.

Dan, 33, admitted the call-up came as something of a shock, despite his years of experience on the water.
