A man was arrested following a suspected arson at an address yards away from Ian McKellen's pub The Grapes.

The police and fire brigade were called to Barleycorn Way in Poplar at 5am on Tuesday morning after reports a fire had started. The property was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

aaron morris142.jpgTwo men from Tower Hamlets have been jailed for eight years each for being part of a gang involved in a plan to steal £5million of drugs.

Aaron Morris, 22, of Fawe Street and Mark Morris, 37, of East India Dock Road, were sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to supply controlled drugs.

Writing on Remembrance Day, my mind turns to the heroes. One of those was Tommy Flowers, born in 1905 in Abbott Road, Poplar.

He was the son of a bricklayer and, through night school, earned a degree in engineering and went to work for the Post Office.

Teenager stable following Poplar shooting

Witnesses are being sought following a shooting of a teenager in Poplar over the weekend.

Police were called to East India Dock Road just before 2am on Sunday morning after the 17-year-old victim was shot in the back. He is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

Mohammed Abdul Hasnath of Blair Street, E14 is charged with six counts of possession of a document or record containing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

DLR suspended at Canary Wharf

The DLR is currently suspended between Poplar and Canary Wharf due to a signal failure at Poplar. London Underground is accepting tickets via reasonable routes.

A violent gang has been jailed after viciously beating a teenager with chains, sticks and poles.

At Snaresbrook Crown Court, seven men were found guilty of the attack which took place in Will Crooks Estate in Poplar on a Saturday night in July last year.

Any problems? Minor delays are occurring between Willesden Junction and Richmond "due to non-availability of staff". Elsewhere, with full staff, the Tube and DLR are running smoothly. Police are appealing for information after a woman went missing while on a shopping trip in west London.

Samira Mohammad Atih, 33, from Poplar was last seen on March 6 at 11.40pm in the Westfield shopping centre in Shepherds Bush.

A youth is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed in Poplar on Saturday night.

The unnamed 16-year-old was with friends when they were chased into the EFC takeaway on Burdett Road by a gang of between three or four teenage boys.

Police appeal over Poplar incidents

Police are asking for information regarding three incidents near Poplar over the weekend, one which left a man with a broken leg.

It began on Saturday at 4pm in the afternoon, near the Will Crooks Estate by Poplar High Street, when a dispute between youths led to one of them being hit by a car.

Police are asking for information regarding three sex attacks in the space of three months which they believe were carried out by the same man.

The first reported incident took place on November 3, and was followed by further assaults on January 20 and 24.

Two brothers have been sent to prison for killing their father in a hammer attack following an argument in October.

For Tommy worked with genius Alan Turing's brilliance - created code breaking machines for Bletchley Park that shortened the war and saved millions of lives.
