American rock band Placebo have been confirmed as the first music act to take part in the Sundance London festival at The O2.

Sundance London, an off-shoot of actor-director Robert Redford's successful festival in America, takes place between April 26-29 and will feature film premieres and live music.

Their name is Latin for "I will please" and that's exactly what alt-rockers Placebo will be aiming to do when they arrive in North Greenwich next week.

The band, best known for hits like Nancy Boy and Pure Morning have been touring Europe to promote new album Battle For The Sun and arrive at The O2 on December 9.

Depeche Mode have been forced to postpone this Saturday's gig at The O2 as lead singer Dave Gahan recovers from illness.

Gahan has been receiving treatment for a bladder tumour and the band have cancelled all shows on their European tour until June 8.
