Christine Ohuruogu is among a number of Newham & Essex Beagles athletes included in the Great Britain team for next month's World Championships.

The World and Olympic 400m champion has been handed the chance to defend her title in Berlin despite recent injury problems.

Newham and Essex Beagles are one of Britain's best athletics clubs but they are now in a race to attract more people into the sport.

The historic club, based at the Terence McMillan Stadium in Plaistow, lifted the British League title last season and saw golden girl Christine Ohuruogu claim the Olympic 400m title.

Mo Farah is the man to watch in 2009, according to athletics legend Roger Black.

Farah, the Newham and Essex Beagles runner, has started the year in excellent form and hopes to continue in the 3,000m at the European Indoor Championships in Turin this weekend.
