CITY Airport has received permission to increase the number of planes taking off and landing in east London following a heated debate at Newham Town Hall.

Four objectors were removed from the room by security staff and many others walked out in disgust, as councillors passed the application by five to one on Wednesday evening, October 8.

The approval will allow City Airport to increase annual flight movements from 80,000 to 120,000.

The plans were previously backed by London Mayor Boris Johnson.
