A man was arrested following a suspected arson at an address yards away from Ian McKellen's pub The Grapes.

The police and fire brigade were called to Barleycorn Way in Poplar at 5am on Tuesday morning after reports a fire had started. The property was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

A homeowner was horrified when they returned from holiday to find a group of homeless people had moved into their property.

The offenders broke into the address in Narrow Street, Limehouse, last October, drunk expensive bottles of wine and ate food from the fridge. They also left dog excrement all over the inside of the house.

The woman was pulled from the river near Narrow Street at 1.30pm on June 22. She is described as between 20-40 years old, 5ft 5ins tall, of slim build and with dark hair.

The London mayor was among a group cycling along Narrow Street when the vehicle's doors swung open, catching on a car and dragging it along the road.

NARROW Street will again celebrate August Bank Holiday with a traditional fete this year.

Locals will flock to Ropemaker’s field for fancy dress, stalls, Pearly Kings and Queens and Punch and Judy shows on August 25.

Limehouse's own village fete was cooked up in The Grapes in Narrow Street three years ago, and has been opened by famous residents such as Ian McKellen and Cleo Rocos.

The event attracts a large number of volunteers from around the area, and there is still time to get involved.

ARMED robbers tied up and threatened staff at Booty’s Riverside Bar before stealing the takings from marathon day.

The two men made off with £5,000 in the incident on Sunday night (April 13) immediately after closing time.

Det Con Dean Musgrove from Tower Hamlets police said: “Although nobody was injured, the staff were threatened. This bar has a good reputation and is not known for trouble. This has left the manager traumatised.�
