The NHS facility on Marsh Wall shut on March 31, following a 40 per cent drop in predicted patient numbers, a report by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism has revealed.

My own correspondence to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley highlighted the fears of individuals, patient groups, professionals and experts who have condemned the proposals as wasteful, unnecessary and potentially damaging to the NHS.

Tower Hamlets Council cabinet member Anwara Ali has left Labour for the Tories, saying she has become "disillusioned" with the party's NHS reform.

The Bow West councillor's defection will come as a blow to the ruling party, as the GP was lead member for health and well-being in the borough.
