I recently co-sponsored a debate in the House on circus animals. This was business with which I'd been dealing, as a minister, just before the election, but which we didn't have time to finish. Mark Pritchard, Tory MP for The Wrekin, Bob Russell, Lib-Dem for Colchester, and I jointly pressed the Government to ban wild animals in circuses.

The question of how to deal with dangerous dogs surfaced last week in the Commons.
I initiated a consultation on the subject in March, and the Coalition is still considering responses. One of the easy decisions which would make a big difference would be to micro-chip all puppies.
Poplar and Canning Town MP Jim Fitzpatrick will be swapping his advice surgery for a medical one when he goes into hospital just before Christmas.
Mr Fitzpatrick is scheduled to have a neurosurgical operation for a condition called trigeminal neuralgia on December 15, which will put him out of action for several weeks.

When Jim Fitzpatrick first became an MP for Poplar and Canning Town in 1997, he was representing a new constituency and a new Labour government.
More than a decade later, his constituency is changing again, and many speculate the Government will again change with it.
