Libyan heroine docks at South Quay

In the recent Libyan conflict it became the first British Navy ship to return fire in almost 30 years. This weekend HMS Liverpool was in calmer waters as it made a stop-off in Docklands before being decommissioned in March.

The ship recently returned from Libya where it served as part of the NATO armed forces.

Campaigners for justice over the Canary Wharf bomb are adding their voices to calls for one of the leading members of Colonel Gaddafi's government to stand trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

It comes after the new Libyan rulers said Colonel Abdullah al-Senoussi had been arrested in the African country at the weekend.

The death of Colonel Gaddafi on Thursday was watched with interest by many in the Docklands area.

It marked the end of a man they blame for the devastation caused at South Quay in 1996, which saw two people killed and dozens more seriously injured in an IRA terrorist explosion.

Hopes of compensation for victims of the IRA bombing of South Quay were raised this week after David Cameron said it was a "vitally important issue" to the Government.

It came after the Prime Minister was asked in Parliament by MP for Belfast North Nigel Dodds about support for victims of Libyan-sponsored terrorism.

Victims of the 1996 bombing of South Quay have spoken out in support of the Libyan rebels' invasion of Tripoli.

The support team for those injured in the IRA explosion had previously visited Benghazi - the headquarters of the rebels - to show their support for the group opposed to Colonel Gaddafi's regime.

Victims of the Docklands bomb are celebrating after Colonel Gaddafi's government lost its London embassy this week.

Those injured in the 1996 attack have been campaigning against Gaddafi's Libyan regime for supplying semtex to the IRA in the blast at South Quay.

Security guard Jonathan Ganesh, who was injured in the 1996 attack on Canary Wharf, was at Stormont to discuss future action with Families Acting For Innocent Relatives frontman Willie Frazer.

Victims of the IRA bombing of South Quay have been given new hope of compensation from a contract signed by rebels in the current Libyan conflict.

Mustafa Abdul Jalil, chairman of the National Transitional Council, met with victims' lawyer Jason McCue in Benghazi and agreed to a settlement if it can gain power over Colonel Gaddafi.

Victims of the Canary Wharf bomb of 1996 say Musa Kusa must not be allowed to escape trial over allegations he was a key player in providing semtex to the IRA.

The Libyan foreign minister arrived in England last week after fleeing the African state and is said to be assisting UK Government officials.

Victims campaigning for compensation from Colonel Gaddafi over the Docklands IRA bomb have backed the Libyan rebels attempting to overthrow the dictator.

Jonathan Ganesh, who was injured in the 1996 blast at South Quay, joined demonstrators at the Libyan Embassy in London last week.

Growing uncertainty over the future of Colonel Gaddafi and the current Libyan state will not affect Docklands bomb victims' claims for compensation, according to a leading figure in the group.

The Arab country has been embroiled in protests aimed at the oppressive regime, which has reacted by allegedly killing hundreds in an attempt to quell the uprising.
