It was prize time for volunteers from City and Canary Wharf companies at East London Business Alliance's Employee Volunteer Awards.

The biggest winner was Paul Stebbings from Tate & Lyle, who was named individual volunteer of the year and overall volunteer of the year for his work with Stratford Circus.

These have been tough economic times but one Docklands-based organisation has been using its expertise to keep the cogs of co-operation turning between business and the community.

The East London Business Alliance (Elba) emerged in the late 1980s to help east London residents into jobs in the new Docklands development.

The work of volunteers from businesses in Canary Wharf and the City was recognised at an awards ceremony last week.

Wilton's Music Hall in Limehouse was the venue for the East London Business Alliance Annual Volunteer Awards, presented by London chairman of KPMG and ELBA chairman, Richard Reid.
