00mar13prop1.jpgAnother part of the huge Greenwich Peninsula regeneration has fallen into place.

Greenwich Council has approved a scheme for 207 homes occupying a prominent plot on the 190-acre development site – one of London’s largest regeneration projects.

Over the next 15 years the area will see 10,000 new homes, the creation of 24,000 permanent jobs, a new business district, leisure facilities, parks and open spaces.

CHARLIE Brown could certainly be regarded as a popular man.

Known as the uncrowned king of Limehouse and the squire of West India Dock Road, about 16,000
people attended his funeral – London’s biggest of the 20th century until Winston Churchill died in 1965.

The story of the landlord of the Railway Tavern who died in 1932 is just one of the tales recounted in Ed Glinert’s new book, London’s Dead, released by Harper Collins this month, priced at £12.99.

THESE are troubled times at Upton Park but the West Ham board are placing their faith in manager Alan Curbishley – for the time being.

His future has become the subject of increasing media speculation after the recent run of poor results, culminating in Sunday’s (March 9) capitulation at Tottenham, their third 4-0 defeat in a row.

The Home Front property column by Dawn Sandoval

Q. Help, I’m in absolute turmoil. I should have exchanged and completed on my house last week but unfortunately I am still here, as it has been delayed because my buyer’s deposit has been held up with the lender. They have a mortgage offer but it’s their deposit that is the issue. I am buying a new house directly from a developer with a deadline imposed for completion and he is now threatening to pull out.

A. The final hour of any transaction is always fraught, to say the least. I take it the deposit is being released from a re-mortgage on your buyer’s current property, so I am sure it really is just a case of the lender dragging their heels. With regards to the developer pulling out, yes, developers tend to be more ruthless in this scenario simply because they can as there is no emotional attachment to the transaction. However, I would say that it seems you are only a day or two away from the exchange being executed so although he is threatening to do so I would think that as long as you can come through with the goods within the next week its unlikely that he will be willing to rescind the contract and start the whole process all over again.
