Liberal Democrats at the London Assembly have called for a month long closure of the Jubilee line this summer following reports the service faces 30 days of weekend closures until 2015.

Engineering works are due to begin in June between Finchley Road and Waterloo following news acidic water was eating into tunnel walls.

A walk-out planned for the first day back to work after Easter has been cancelled following talks between unions and London Underground bosses.

Statements were released on Thursday afternoon saying an agreement had been reached on all issues. The fall-out was over allegations of management bullying and poor working conditions.

Drivers on the Jubilee line have voted to walk-out for 24 hours next Tuesday in the first of two strikes.

Members of both Aslef and the RMT have backed the action over claims of poor working conditions, especially at its base in North Greenwich. As well as the strike on April 2 there will also be a walk-out on May 2.

A thief who stole a woman's laptop at Canary Wharf and then rang her that night offering to sell it back to her has avoided a prison sentence.

Joe Amis, 28, of Grove Street in Deptford, was given a 10 week sentence suspended for 12 months. He had pleaded guilty at Inner London Crown Court to theft and false representation.
