The consortium, based in Westferry Circus, learned the figure today when PPP arbiter Chris Bolt announced his decision.

A signal failure at Canada Water saw the Jubilee line suspended between London Bridge and Canary Wharf at the peak of rush hour, while Bank station shut because of overcrowding.

The consortium, responsible for upgrading the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines was claiming £327million in costs for delays to work on two lines being finished.

The company, which yesterday saw chief executive Dean Finch announce his departure, has been recommended to receive £4.394billion for the next tranche of work on the network.

From January 9 sections of the line will be shut for all but three weekends up to and including Easter, when the entire line will close between April 2-5.

Boris Johnson's key transport aide has slammed Tube Lines over the delayed finish to upgrade work on the Jubilee line.

Kulveer Ranger, who advises the Mayor of London on all transport issues, admitted he was "disappointed" by Tube Lines' failure to meet their December 31 deadline.

For about a year I have been raising concerns about weekend rail closures in East London with the Mayor, and anyone else I can get hold of. So I'm glad that the issue of the seriousness of ongoing problems of the Jubilee line works has now got much wider attention. The weekend closures effectively cut off east London, particularly when they coincide with works on the DLR or District line.

British Transport Police were called at 2.47pm after two passengers claimed they were threatened by a man with a firearm between West Ham and Canning Town stations.
