Millwall Park, Sir John McDougal Gardens and Island Gardens are among a number of parks in the borough to be hired out, raising up to £200,000 a year for the Council.

Millwall Park, Sir John McDougal Gardens, Island Gardens and St John's Park have all been earmarked for hire for events such as corporate sports days and weddings to boost Council coffers.

An asylum seeker who escaped life as a child soldier in war-torn Angola was sent to prison after breaking into the flat of a woman and sexually assaulting her.

Joao Da Silva earlier pleaded guilty to the charges in the incident in December last year, in which he attacked a female who had helped him on his journey across London.

A commuter who asked a group of teenagers to stop spitting at fellow passengers was followed down the road and attacked.

The victim, a 51-year-old man, was at Greenwich DLR on Monday June 22, when he confronted the group on the platform.
