Police are seeking to trace a hero who tried to save a man from drowning in the Shadwell Basin last year.

Ibrahim Gharib, 20, of E1, died in the incident on March 18. It is believed he and a female friend had become involved in an altercation with another group at about 9.30pm just before falling into the basin.

Police have named the man who was found dead in Shadwell Basin on Friday morning as Ibrahim Gharib.

The Fire Brigade, police and ambulance service were called to the scene on Thursday at 9.30pm. Ibrahim, a 20-year-old from E1, was discovered in the basin on Friday morning.
