Friends and family of those killed in the IRA bombing of Canary Wharf gathered at the graveside of one of the victims to mark the 16th anniversary of the attack.

The memorial service took place just after Prime Minister David Cameron repeated his support for a campaign calling on compensation from Libya for providing Semtex used in the blast.

Campaigners for justice over the Canary Wharf bomb are adding their voices to calls for one of the leading members of Colonel Gaddafi's government to stand trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

It comes after the new Libyan rulers said Colonel Abdullah al-Senoussi had been arrested in the African country at the weekend.

Security guard Jonathan Ganesh, who was injured in the 1996 attack on Canary Wharf, was at Stormont to discuss future action with Families Acting For Innocent Relatives frontman Willie Frazer.

Victims of the Canary Wharf bomb of 1996 say Musa Kusa must not be allowed to escape trial over allegations he was a key player in providing semtex to the IRA.

The Libyan foreign minister arrived in England last week after fleeing the African state and is said to be assisting UK Government officials.

There were clergymen from a range of faiths and a dozen doves released to symbolise the hope of world peace, as victims of terror came together to remember their lost friends.

The emotional service took place under South Quay DLR station last Wednesday, 15 years after an IRA bomb devastated the area.

A dozen doves will be released by victims of terrorism at Canary Wharf next week.

The event, which will also include a multi-faith service, is taking place on Wednesday, February 9, to remember those killed and injured in the bombing of South Quay 15 years ago.

Hopes a deal between Libya and Britain had been struck over compensation for victims of IRA terror attacks, including those affected in the 1996 Docklands bomb, have proved to be a false dawn.

It follows a report last week in the the Sunday Times which said the Libyan government was to agree a historic deal with up to £2billion.

On an April day in 1993, an IRA bomb ripped through the City of London, killing one and injuring more than 40.

The IRA gave coded warnings in advance and most of those injured were security workers. The one fatality was a freelance photographer.

Gordon Brown used a recent visit to Tower Hamlets to condemn Tory plans to abolish the Financial Services Authority.

The North Collonade-based regulator employs about 2,800 staff, mostly in Canary Wharf, but shadow chancellor George Osborne plans to return its powers to the Bank of England if the Conservative Party wins the general election.

Two people lost their lives and dozens of people were seriously injured by flying debris and glass in the IRA attack at Marshwall 14 years ago.

At the weekend, the campaign took a huge step forward when Prime Minister Gordon Brown caved in to pressure and said he would back attempts to force Colonel Gaddafi to pay for IRA attacks.

Wharf security guard Jonathan Ganesh, who was injured in the attack in 1996, was one of five delegates who met the PM for an hour long meeting in Parliament.
